Water Systems

Water Treatment Plant

The Town of Parry Sound owns & operates the Tony Agnello Water Treatment Plant. This facility was named after Mr. Tony Agnello Sr. who, as the Waterworks Superintendent of the Public Utilities Commission had the foresight to plan for this state-of-the-art facility.  When the water system was transferred to the Town of Parry Sound in 2000, Mr. Agnello became the Director of Operations.  This facility was commissioned in 2001.

The residents of Parry Sound have Georgian Bay as its source of fresh water to supply the Town of Parry Sound.

The Town of Parry Sound’s Water Operators are responsible for the maintenance & operation of the town’s water mains, valves, hydrants, booster stations, and all other services related to the distribution of our water supply.  They inspect all new water mains, services and meter installations.

Flushing of the town’s fire hydrants occurs every spring and fall.  You may experience discolored water that should clear if you allow the tap water to run for several minutes. You may also notice a decrease in water pressure while this maintenance is occurring in your neighbourhood.

We will provide water locates upon request, but please contact your local provider for hydro, cable & natural gas.

The Town of Parry Sound Quality Management System Policy

"The Water System Business Unit, as the Operating Authority is committed to:

  • Maintain and continually improve on the Quality Management System
  • Provide Safe Drinking Water to the consumers
  • Comply with all applicable legislation and regulation"
(As adopted by Council Resolution 2008-196, October 7th, 2008)

Going away for the winter?

Contact the Operations Department at 705-746-2101 to arrange for your water service to be shut off during normal business hours to avoid being charged for this service. You won’t be billed for water and sewer usage while the service is off. Please be advised that someone must be present in the home when your water service is turned on or off.

Watering Restrictions

As per Town of Parry Sound by-law 2007-5063 (Water By-Law), watering restrictions for lawn & garden watering are in effect for the months of May, June, July, August & September for all flat rate customers.

Emergencies

The Town of Parry sound is responsible for water mains & service lines up to your property line.  If you suspect a water leak at your home, please contact a plumber.  If they require our assistance, they will contact us directly.  We do not perform work on private property.

If you notice water bubbling up on a street, please contact us immediately at 746-2101 or after hours at 773-8207
