Waste Management

The Town of Parry Sound's Waste Management System includes curbside pick up as well as the Transfer Station for disposal of household garbage, recycling, compost and Municipal Hazardous and Special waste.

Curbside Garbage & Recycling Collection

The Town of Parry Sound contracts curbside collection to BFI CANADA.

Collection occurs every day within the town. Please see Curbside Collection Schedule for your scheduled day.

Recycling is picked up the same day as household garbage but alternates each week between containers and fibres. Please see 2012 Collection Calendar for schedule. Please follow the points on the calendar to ensure successful pick up of your weekly waste which includes what is acceptable and not acceptable in our recycling program.

Residential Disposal

There is no charge to residents of the Town of Parry Sound for the disposal of yard waste, scrap metal, recyclables, cardboard, household hazardous waste and appliances that do not require freon removal (eg. stove, dishwasher, microwave).

Appliances that do require freon removal (eg. refrigerator, freezer) require 8 tags.  If the freon has already been removed from the appliance, there must be a certification sticker attached, otherwise the attendant will not accept it without tags.

Household garbage requires 1 tag affixed to each bag.

A trunk load of bulky waste requires 3 tags and a truck load or utility trailer of bulky waste requires 10 tags.  (Bulky waste includes: mattresses, crates, packing material, household furnishings and material used in the construction and/or renovation of residential buildings.  Shingles, asphalt and/or concrete containing metal will not be accepted.

Commercial Disposal

There is no charge for recyclables, scrap metal, yard waste and cardboard.

Please note that large quantities of cardboard must be delivered before 2:00 p.m., otherwise, at the discretion of the Transfer Station Attendant, acceptance may be denied.

No other commercial tipping accepted.

Yard Waste

Yard waste is picked up by Town employees once a year.  This generally commences November 1st, and runs for 2 weeks.  Place your yard waste at the curb in biodegradable or paper bags.  (Plastic bags will not be picked up).  Pumpkins can be left with your bags.

You can also dispose of your yard waste at the Transfer Station free of charge any time of the year.  If delivered in anything other than a biodegradable bag, you will be required to de-bag the waste yourself.

Compost

All yard waste and pumpkins are disposed of in the yard & brush pile. This material is ground and the end product becomes compost. Once this compost is ready, you can purchase for your garden.  Compost can be purchased with prepaid tags as shown below. Compost must be loaded by the purchaser.
