Triathlons and Sprint Triathlons in Parry Sound, Ontario
Parry Sound announces a new triathlon for the summer of 2009: the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame triathlon, tentatively scheduled for August 23, 2009.
The town of Parry Sound, Ontario has offered many triathlon events in previous years, featuring:
A swim course in a small, clean, deep & calm lake
A beautiful but challenging bike course
A scenic, windy, hilly, country run
It is expected that the 2009 triathlon, financially supported by the Town of Parry Sound, will offer two events: a try-a-tri for non-competitive participants (375 metre swim, 10 km bike and 2.5 km run) and a standard triathlon (800 metre swim, 24 km bike and a 7.5 km run) for the more competitive set.
The Venue: The Town of Parry Sound: The world renowned jewel of the 30,000 Islands on Georgian Bay.
The world is full of spectacular locations, but there is only one place you can really have it all: breathtaking vistas, fresh water and warm hospitality are what make Parry Sound the four-seasons playground of the near North.
Parry Sound's extraordinary new centre for arts and entertainment, the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, houses a 480-seat acoustically sound Festival Performance Hall which offers a wide variety of year-round entertainment programming including professional theatre productions, concerts, movies, and community events. With its newly installed computerized digital projector, this leading-edge audio-visual system makes it an excellent venue for corporate meetings and conferences.
In any season, be sure to visit the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame where we celebrate the astonishing legacy of Parry Sound's own Bobby Orr, one of the greatest hockey players of all time, and all the other great athletes of this area. Come see the many pieces of memorabilia from Bobby Orr's most famous moments as a professional player, and experience the interactive displays -- record your own commentary in the Play-by-Play Booth, take on an NHL goalie in the Slap Shot zone, or be the goalie in the Hockey Skills Zone.
