CANDIDATE INFORMATION
Notice of Nomination
Beginning January 4, 2010 nominations will be accepted until September 10, 2010 until 2:00 p.m. by the Returning Officer for the following elected offices:
Mayor
Councillor (Six)
School Board Trustee (Four)
To run for the position of mayor or councillor, you must be
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years of age
- a resident of the Town of Parry Sound, or the owner or tenant of property in the Town of Parry Sound (or the spouse of an owner or tenant)
- eligible to vote
- not disqualified to hold office by any legislation
To run for the position of school board trustee, you must be
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years of age
- a resident in the school board's area of jurisdiction
- eligible to vote for the school board
- not disqualified to hold office by any legislation
Nomination forms will be available on January 4, 2010 at the Town of Parry Sound Municipal Office by contacting the Deputy Clerk/Returning Officer or by clicking Nomination Form
The following nomination filing fees apply
- $200.00 for the Office of Mayor
- $100.00 for the Office of Councillor, School Board Trustee
The filing fee must be paid either in cash, by debit card, by certified cheque or by money order made payable to the Town of Parry Sound. A nomination form, signed by the candidate, may be filed in person or by a candidate's agent at the Town of Parry Sound, 70 Joseph Street, Suite 301B (Parry Sound Mall), Parry Sound, Ontario. Subject to proclamation of amendments to the Municipal Elections Act, the last day to file a nomination paper is no later than 2:00 p.m. September 10, 2010. Candidates will be provided with a complete information package when they file to run for office.
The term of office is from December 1, 2010 to November 30, 2014.
No person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes, or incur campaign expenses, until that person has filed a Nomination Form with the Town Clerk
